A modern skyscraper on the Minneapolis city-skyline stood tall as the nighttime streetlights reflected off its shimmering glass and steel structure. One would think such a beautiful building was a beacon of great ideas and hard work for the better of humanity. Gabriel Andrade certainly thought that with the way the wind curled around the upper floors and descended to rustle his hair. It was an awe-inspiring sight. But it wasn’t the building nor what it stood for that lifted his spirits. The law firm of Caplan & Tamburino was a despicable group and its pending downfall at his own hands, warmed his heart.

Gabriel walked into the first-floor lobby in full drag. As the persona, Vera Mystica, he was dressed in a form-fitting black leather body suit decorated with red halters and belts accenting his waist, thighs, breast, and shoulders. Vera Mystica wore a platinum-blonde wig that waterfalled over his shoulders and down to her waist. His most eye-catching feature was his piercing eyes, decorated in heavily painted eyeliner and shimmering eyeshadow.

During the day, Gabriel worked at the Borman Law Firm where he had overhead his coworkers talking about a case between Caplan & Tamburino and the infamous homophobic Kasper van Calcar. If the documentation for the case went through, Calcar would gain the ability to systematically flush out non-heterosexual employees at his company. If the file was never turned in… Calcar would not only become a laughingstock in the world of law, but he would lose an astronomical sum of money hung up on the related court case.

Inside the lobby of Caplan & Tamburino, Gabriel, now Vera Mystica, was thrumming with energy. The front lobby was dark save for a few lights. It was just as he imagined it would be.

Only last week, Gabriel had sat at home reading the newspaper when he discovered Fabulous Ivy’s story and how the talented drag queen single-handedly took out an entire bank-staff with hypnosis during a robbery. He may be no Fabulous Ivy, but Gabriel had another trick up his sleeve. With his own unique skillset, he was here to complete a daring mission.

The lobby stretched out with a single walkway carpet leading to a receptionist’s desk. On each side of the room, sitting areas with wrinkled magazines stacked on steel coffee tables populated the space. Behind the receptionist desk were the doors to the elevator. That was where Vera Mystica had to go. Caplan & Tamburino was somewhere a few floors up, just within reach.

A single man sat at the receptionist desk. He was hunched over with his eyes locked on the monitor and did not notice Vera Mystica’s entrance. Vera Mystica approached stealthily, his hips waving in rhythm to his footsteps. The carpet muffled his high heels’ strikes.

Slipping around to the back of the desk, Vera Mystica peeked over the man’s shoulder. Several monitors all tuned into the building’s security cameras sat on the desk. Despite little activity taking place in each screen, his focus was glued to one where a black woman with long black hair was sitting at her desk, working.
