Flashing lights swirl over a throbbing dance floor as women dance and party into the early morning hours. The Henrietta Hudson Lesbian Bar is a local gem, welcoming to all, with plenty of drinks, good tunes, and memorabilia hung all about the room, decorating the walls with a storied history. In the glare of red and blue disco lights, Mary Jane sits at the bar, squinting at a framed painting hung on the wall.

She can’t tell if she is looking at an image of ocean waves, or if an artist threw blue paint all over the canvas. Sparkles of disco light splatter over the image and her bare elbows stick to the bar top. She swirls her bottle, a half-empty Heineken, with a frown. It wasn’t her best choice, but nor was anything that happened to her this week. Wearing a short green dress with a plunging neckline and a split skirt, Mary Jane is dressed for a night out. Her darkly lined eyes, deep red lipstick, and her loose red hair tumbling over her shoulders all speak to that, but she drinks alone as a clock on the wall clicks toward oblivion.

A woman sits down on an empty bar stool next to Mary Jane and waves down the barkeep, a slender woman with electric-blue hair, named Olive. “I’ll have two of the Henrietta Pussy Tails—a One Night Stand, please, and a Sexy Lady for the red-head over here,” she says.

“Yes, Ma’am,” Olive answers, slapping two drink coasters onto the bar.

Mary Jane snorts into her drink and sets down her now empty bottle. She turns towards the woman sitting next to her. She has long white hair, a pale complexion, and is wearing black leather pants, a chain belt, and a tight white crop top that looks like it is struggling to keep her endowed chest all in one place. Both the lights from the dance floor and black lights illuminate her hair and top, lighting her up like a firefly.

“Felicia Hardy?” Mary Jane asks. Her mouth rounds into an “O” as she recognizes her old acquaintance. Not her favorite acquaintance, by far, but at least it looks like she isn’t going to keep drinking alone.

“And the one and only Mary Jane. How’s my favorite red?” Felicia asks. She twists her words into a low purr, leaning closer to talk against the booming bass of the club. She smells of lilac and cherries. She glances down to Mary Jane’s chest and back up with a smile. Mary Jane’s cheeks color but she doesn’t move away.

“Well, well, I think it’s a good thing that I found you tonight. How have you been?” Felicia asks. The bartender shakes up a mixer and pours their drinks, setting each glass before Felicia and Mary Jane. Felicia’s drink is bright pink with a cherry on a little plastic sword. Mary Jane picks up a martini glass, cold to the touch, with a red drink and a lemon peel garnish. She takes a sip before answering, savoring the sour flavor, as she ponders Felicia’s question.

“I’m fine,” Mary Jane answers. “I needed some fresh air, so I found my way here. What about you?” She leans towards Felicia, her new interest in this bleak night.

“You may say I’m out on the prowl. Want another drink?”

Mary Jane looks down and finds her glass already empty. “Absolutely,” she says. She sets her glass down and reaches for Felicia’s. Her movements feel a little fuzzy as the warmth of the vodka in her drink begins to buzz through her body, sidling up to the beer she had previously. Hopefully she won’t regret that combination too much in the morning.

Felicia relinquishes her drink with a flourish and taps on the bar to order more. “Keep the drinks coming!” The bartender obliges and they are soon presented with another pair of colorful cocktails.

Felicia rests her hand on Mary Jane’s knee as Mary Jane enjoys the fruity rum of the Once Night Stand. She sets the glass down with a thud and plops her hand over Felicia’s. “It’s good to see you, I could use some of your badass energy,” Mary Jane says. Felicia is a talented thief, not that Mary Jane thinks she should spend her time swindling people of their possessions. But, as someone who cannot run around and climb buildings on a whim, there is something mystifying about her abilities.

“You don’t say? Have any spider trouble lately?”

Mary Jane shrugs, sliding off her seat to stand in front of Felicia instead. “Um, not really. You know how it is. That spider swings in and out of my life on a whim. I can’t help but feel like I’m not very important. I don’t have feelings for him anymore, we are not involved, but it just makes my life feel so blah in comparison.” She wants to feel important too. She’s been spending lots of time every week applying for auditions, doing cold readings, and more until her head spins. Nothing is working out at the moment.

Felicia’s eyes widen. “Little loose lips, are you feeling the liquor, already?” she asks with a chuckle.

"What? Of course not!” Mary Jane protests. She grasps Felicia’s hands. “Come on. I’ll prove it to you, let’s dance!” Mary Jane tugs Felicia off her bar stool and towards the dance floor. Felicia’s heart starts to speed up and she swallows in an effort to stay calm. Maybe it’s the loud music, the warmth of the room, but the way Mary Jane’s ass swings in that tight little number she has on is amazing. Felicia leaps forward and wraps her arms around Mary Jane, pulling her close with a soft kiss to her cheek.

“Whatever you want, darling. Let’s dance.”

Mary Jane and Felicia whirl onto the dance floor, swept up in the crowd around them as they jump and pull each other close. Felicia traces her hands up and down Mary Jane’s waist and hips. Mary Jane, her face completely flushed from the alcohol, grinds against her and kisses her neck, her own hands wandering. In the intoxication of the night, it’s easy to get close and fall under the spell that is Felicia’s allure. She is beautiful and confident in the way she moves, her eyes never leaving Mary Jane.

With a light laugh, Felicia nibbles the tip of Mary Jane’s ear as she pulls her close for a moment. They sway against the crowd and she pulls back to looks deeply into her eyes with a luscious smile. “How are you feeling?”

Mary Jane wraps her arms around Felicia’s neck and presses her body to hers. Something about her hands on her body, the warmth of her presence, Mary Jane wants more. Maybe she is feeling lonely, maybe she is a little drunk, but Felicia’s hands are filling the voids as the sweep down to her waist and caress her ass.

“Good!” Mary Jane shouts over the music. A pop number by Katy Perry blares over the speakers and the crowd around them screams. In a sudden surge of dancers, Felicia grabs Mary Jane’s arms and pulls her off to the side of the dance floor until they are against a wall where only the sparkle of the disco light breaks up the darkness.

As the music’s bass throbs in Mary Jane’s chest, she leans close to Felicia, staring at the swoop of her elegant brow, her plump lips, and the depth of her eyes. Caught in the trance of Felicia’s smile, her touch, and the low velvet of her voice, Mary Jane tilts her face up and kisses Felicia.

Felicia doesn’t even gasp or pull back as if she had been expecting this outcome, wishing for it. She cups Mary Jane’s face in her hands and kisses her back, nibbling her lip and letting her tongue explore. They push against each other, grasping for more as the kiss becomes more passionate and urgent.

Felicia spins and pushes Mary Jane back up against the wall, her knee pushes between her legs to fill the space between her thighs. After a few moments, Felicia catches herself and pulls back. Mary Jane, caught in the rush, leans in for more but finds only empty air. She opens her eyes to see Felicia watching her, biting her lip in thought.

“MJ, how about we take this somewhere else?”

All warm and fuzzy, reaching to feel more of her, Mary Jane nods. She nips a kiss on Felicia’s neck and runs her hands down her back, grasping the smooth leather over her ass.

“Yes, yes,” Mary Jane answers.

Mary Jane and Felicia pay for their remaining drinks and then exit the club, arm in arm. Outside, a line of yellow taxis drift up and down the city roads, spilling exhaust into that unique New York City air. Felicia holds onto Mary Jane tight and hails a taxi. When one pulls to the curb, they clamber inside and drop onto the worn-out seats. Felicia tells the driver an address and as they pull away from the curb, Mary Jane falls into her arms, clambering for another kiss.

As the taxi rocks through Manhattan traffic, Mary Jane pushes herself up against Felicia, pulling wants, truths, and demands from her in the form of eager kisses. Felicia obliges, sinking into the ardor and twisting her fingers into her red hair. As they fall back onto the seat, Mary Jane’s heels clatter against car door and she almost slips off the seat, but she doesn’t care. She wraps herself around Felicia and is absorbed in the moment.

When the car finally comes to a stop, they sit up and pay the driver. Mary Jane clings to Felicia’s arm, watching her every move as they step outside and enter an apartment complex. They rush through a first-floor lobby and into an elevator. Once the elevator dings and the doors open, Felicia half carries, half pulls Mary Jane to her apartment. The two stop before the door, full of giggles, as Felicia holds up her keys, gesturing to the door with a smile.

“Yes,” Mary Jane says. She swats at the keys as if she could take them for herself and open this door any faster. “Yes, let’s go now.”

“—a hope. Just like a feeling I need, it’s no joke—”

A heavy blanket slides away from Mary Jane’s face as she plasters herself against a silk-covered mattress and plush pillows. The world behind her eyelids is tinged red as morning sunlight pushes its way into her reality. A tinny ringtone-song echoes into the air.

“—Up, down, turn around. Please don’t let me hit the ground—”

There is a groan, and a shift of weight slopes the mattress, dipping away from Mary Jane, as someone sits up, throws a blanket, and gets out of bed. The newly disturbed blanket settles over Mary Jane’s calves and the bare skin of her back is exposed to the morning air.

Tonight I think I’ll walk alone. I’ll find my soul—beep!”

“Ah, shit. Didn’t know I still had that alarm set.” The mattress dips again as someone sits back down.

Mary Jane swallows, as a fear grows in her throat. Where is she? Who is this? She opens her eyes and the green eyes of Felicia Hardy meet her own. Mary Jane pulls back, jumping up until she sits crouched on top of the mattress, a large white bed that is not her own. Felicia sits up too, her body draped in a delicate black nightgown. Her white hair is ruffled, curling around her face and a few stray pieces stick up into the air. She clutches her phone in her hand where the music must have come from.

“Sorry sweetheart, I wanted you to sleep in a little longer,” Felicia says. She pouts and tosses the phone aside. She looks back at Mary Jane and then her expression lightens. “It’s good to see you again, though. An entire night with you hardly satiated that want.”

Mary Jane colors and goes to adjust her pajamas but her fingers brush only bare skin. She’s completely naked. She yelps and pulls the white comforter up to her chest. She looks around, suddenly taking in where she might be. She isn’t in her room back home but is in a bedroom with white walls, oak flooring, and airy features. To her right, a large patio sliding door opens to a balcony overlooking Manhattan. The bed is flanked by two bed side tables, lamps, and an armchair is by the patio door.

“Did I—Did we?!” Mary Jane sputters. Her cheeks burn and her hands begin to shake. “Where am I?!”

Felicia reaches out and grasps Mary Jane’s hands. She flinches but doesn’t push her away.

“Shh, it’s okay! Everything is alright. We are in my penthouse; we came here after the club last night. Do you remember?”

“Remember? I—” Mary Jane clamps her mouth shut. She remembers coming up to the penthouse last night, glued to Felicia’s side. How they stumbled inside, interlocked in an embrace, fighting for air with kiss after kiss. How Felicia held her, felt her, and the deep warm pulse of her want…Mary Jane remembered it all, but she couldn’t let Felicia know that. [censored] Mary Jane fakes a shudder and pulls away. “I think I got a little carried away.”

“Carried away? That’s not what you said last night,” Felicia says. Mary Jane steps out of the bed, taking the blankets with her as she tip-toes towards the door over the chilly hardwood flooring.

“I don’t want to think about it. Can we pretend it never happened?”

“Pretend it never happened?” Felicia follows her out of bed. Mary Jane hurriedly leaves the bedroom and enters the main room of the penthouse where there is a kitchen and living room. She bends down to pick up her clothes that are strewn across the floor. Windows trace the bright room and her green dress is on the marble kitchen counter.

“Yeah—I was never here. Okay?” Mary Jane says. She shimmies her underwear back up her legs from behind the protection of the blanket and slips her bra on over her arms.

Last night, she had cried for more, clinging to Felicia’s body. Now she wants to leave? Mary Jane pulls on her dress and drops the blanket. She picks up her purse near the door and checks for her keys and wallet.

“Do you want me to call you a taxi?” Felicia offers.

“No thank you.”

A heavy sour feeling grows in Felicia’s chest. She had felt so alive just a few minutes ago. “Did I do anything you didn’t want me to? Did I hurt you in anyway?”

Mary Jane pauses, her phone halfway out of her purse. She shakes her head, a weak smile turning up her lips. “No, you didn’t. You were kind. I just don’t want it to mean anything.”

***

Throughout the following week, Mary Jane distracts herself with work. Her night spent with Felicia had been a weakness, giving into the attention she sought from those around her that were unresponsive. She wants to be someone important and while she works hard to do just that, sometimes she can feel so alone.

After a little bit of moping, Mary Jane receives a call from her agent one day to let her know she received a new role in a movie that she auditioned for a few weeks ago. The role wasn’t what she auditioned for but was a secondary character with an LGBTQ+ background. It was a coming-of-age story and they just fell in love with Mary Jane’s audition tapes. She is the character they imagined.

Mary Jane accepts it. Would this role have been possible a few weeks ago? Before she met Felicia? There is no reason her experience with Felicia would change or alter her life in any way, right? Mary Jane was the same girl she had always been.  She will do just as well in the role now as she would have, she convinces herself. Why wouldn’t she?

A few weeks of practicing lines and meeting the team on set go by when one day after walking through a new scene, Felicia catches her outside after work in the parking lot. Her hands are full of coffee and sweet snacks. Mary Jane considers walking by her, as if she is here for someone else, but slows to a stop instead.

“MJ! Wait!” Felicia calls.

“Hi! Um, how did you find me?” Mary Jane asks.

“I have my ways,” Felicia answers. She is beaming, already presenting the food to Mary Jane as if it is an award or some kind of gift. Mary Jane, not sure what to do, accepts the treats. She is a little hungry and it would be mean to turn down something so nice. After handing over coffee and sweet, Felicia wraps a free arm around Mary Jane and kisses her on the cheek.

Mary Jane blushes and pulls away. She looks over her shoulder and around the emptying lot. “What are you doing?!”

“I wanted to come see you. How have you been?” Felicia asks. She shrugs and bats her eyelashes at her.

After that meeting and small chat, Felicia starts to appear more in Mary Jane’s life. They meet up after work, catch a movie, and she even went over to Mary Jane’s apartment in Queens for dinner one night. When they are together, Mary Jane watches Felicia almost like an understudy. She analyzes every detail. How can one woman be so confident and sure of herself? Each day at work as the weeks go by, she finds more and more of her thoughts wrapped around Felicia. She thinks about the way her eyes sparkle when she laughs. How she feels safe with her and curious, wanting to know all the little details about her likes, dislikes, past, and ideas for the future. Pretty soon, as filming begins and Mary Jane settles into the role of her new character, she grows with a newfound confidence alongside her blooming romance.

Now on a weekly basis, Felicia and Mary Jane are meeting for dinner. They are at Mary Jane’s apartment again. The last couple of visits, becoming a normal occurrence, have turned into something exciting to look forward to. After her messy exit from Felicia’s penthouse, Mary Jane expected to never see her again. She twists her fingers and buries herself in her thoughts as she sits at the kitchen table.

Felicia sits down next to Mary Jane and touches her chin with a manicured nail.

“I know you wanted to forget everything, but what if we start over?” Felicia asks. “I’ll take ‘no’ for an answer, but I’ll warn you, I am pretty stubborn.”

“What do you want?” Mary Jane asks.

“I want to steal your heart, MJ,” Felicia says. She snorts and sinks her head against Mary Jane’s shoulder.

Mary Jane dissolves into laughter. “That was the cheesiest thing I have ever heard!”

Felicia hiccups and tries to catch her breath. “Yeah, but it worked, right?”

Mary Jane reaches out, gently stroking her hair. The white locks slip between her fingers and merge with the rest to cascade down her shoulders. She touches a knuckle to Felicia’s smooth skin and then cups her chin.

“Yeah, it did.” She leans forward and gives her a kiss.

***

“Knock knock!”

Mary Jane, dressed casually in an old T-shirt and leggings, walks into her bedroom. There is a large white bed with a black headboard, a bedside table, and a closet by the door. A set of windows on her left have been opened and Felicia peeks her head in from outside.

“Felicia!” Mary Jane squeaks. She runs to the window and grasps her arms. “What are you doing out here? I was waiting by the door for you.” Felicia, holding onto the window ledge with ease, gives Mary Jane a mischievous smile.

“And miss your reaction? Of course not!” She lifts up a leg and climbs inside, joining Mary Jane on the firm flooring. Felicia is dressed in black running shorts, exposing her long legs, and a black tank top. She drops a bag that is slung over her shoulders onto the ground.

“I mean, it’s not like you are the first person to do that,” Mary Jane says. Peter Parker used to come through her window all the time back when they were friends or were dating. It’s surprising to see someone else do it.

“I understand. He was a nerdy little boy, wasn’t he?” Felicia says.

“Hah—don’t get me started,” Mary Jane says. “Do you want anything to drink? I was just about to start cooking.” Felicia wraps her hands around Mary Jane’s waist before she can exit the room. She pulls her close, pulling her butt against her hips.

“I’m not too hungry yet. Why don’t we hang out in here for a while?” Felicia asks. Mary Jane turns around in her arms with a smile.

“Of course,” she says. She kisses her softly then leads her to the bed. They flop down on the plush comforter and roll into each other’s arms.

During the newfound time they spend together, they had spent hours in bed talking, having sex, and simply laughing. These moments are full of joy for Mary Jane. She holds them delicately in her hands like precious pearls, something so delicate yet bold in its beauty. When she is with Felicia, she feels so open and free. Her heart spills right into her hands as her fears, worries, and curiosities about life are all accepted and heard. They bond and tease over their mutual connection with Peter. Mary Jane talks about her parents and how they fill her with concern at the dangers of marriage and relationships. Felicia opens up and tells her about her college life and how she became the Black Cat.

Their words knit together a fabric of sorrow, kindness, and comfort. Every word spoken finds a foothold in the other, finds a home in open and listening ears. When they tire of words, their bodies pick up the sentences and they spend endless moments in each other’s embrace.

As they sink back into the blankets, Felicia speaks up.

“I have an idea. Can I ask you something, different?”

“Yeah, of course. What is it?”

Felicia rolls over onto her side and looks at Mary Jane. She pinches her nose and then reaches out to pet Mary Jane’s head. She opens her mouth and is frozen for a moment as she searches for the right words. “I wanted to ask if you wanted to try something new in the bedroom. I have some…interests…and I wanted to see if you would like to try them?”

Mary Jane rolls onto her side and props herself up on one elbow. “Interests?”

[censored scene]

“Like what?”

Felicia sits up too and taps on Mary Jane’s forehead as if she is a child who asks too many questions or all the wrong ones. She smiles. “Maybe, when you feel up to it, we can go to a BDSM club sometime? When you feel comfortable enough.”

“Really? You don’t do things like this there, do you?”

“Haha, we’ll work our way into this slowly. Just an idea. Think of it as something a little more exciting than a regular club.”

Mary Jane nods along. “I’ll think about it,” she says. “If you are there, I’ll want to be where you are so it’s not that much of a jump. I think.” No matter where Felicia is, she wants to follow. Be it a club, a new relationship, and new pleasures—if Felicia is involved, she wants to be there. She knows she wants it all.

Ocean Prime at the corner of 123rd West and 52nd street is a famous spot in the culinary world of the Big Apple. The building sits on the side of a main road with a powerful presence. The building has a golden glow and a large awning out front as it welcomes guests into its expensive arms.

Felicia has a history of being a famous cat-burglar, like her father, in New York City. With the crystal chandeliers suspended above their table and menu with prices up in unmentionable numbers, it is hard to wonder if her history of robbery allows her to enjoy such riches. How did she afford her gorgeous penthouse? Regardless, Felicia has been completing several jobs recently where she steals stolen items, returning them to the rightful owners for a reward. No matter what she does, the chandeliers and crystal glasses have nothing on her sparkling beauty.

Draped in a buxom black gown, Felicia wears a sweetheart-sleeveless corset with a bedazzled neckline and a long split-gown skirt. She has on a black lace and chain collar and her hair is down, cascading over her shoulders. Mary Jane, poised above the juicy steak on her plate, wears a white ribbed corset and a long skirt with a slight bustle, splitting over one of her thighs. She wears a matching white collar and pendant. Her red hair is down, lifting gently off her shoulders as she turns to smile at Felicia.

“So, you enjoy sneaking into my apartment?” Mary Jane asks. Her apartment in Queens is much smaller than Felicia’s but the cat burglar has been using her skills to sneak in again and again. Mary Jane picks at the last pieces of her steak, the after taste of champagne on her tongue.

“I love surprising you. Why walk up the stairs when I can come through your window instead?”

“Yeah, that makes sense. Totally.”

“You know what would make more sense to me?”

“Taking the elevator? I don’t know why you would walk up the stairs in an apartment building,” Mary Jane answers.

“That’s not what I’m talking about. There is something else that makes so much more sense.” Felicia puts her fork down, her meal done, and leans over the table towards Mary Jane.

“Hmm?” Mary Jane pops the last piece of steak in her mouth, the flesh the same tint as her rosy-red lips.

“I like being close to you, whenever I can. What if we could be closer?”

“What do you mean?” Mary Jane asks.

“MJ, would you like to move in with me?” Felicia asks earnestly. She folds her hands in her lap and her full attention is on Mary Jane as Mary Jane’s mind spins away. She hasn’t told anyone yet about her current relationship with Felicia. It’s a private thing, delicate, especially since she isn’t sure how to break the news about being a lesbian to her family and friends. What if someone blames the movie she is shooting in? That would be a little ridiculous but upsetting all the same.

“Um, really?” Mary Jane asks. The check is set on their table and Felicia rifles through her purse for her debit card. The waiter returns, takes the check, and brings back the receipt once all is done. In those moments, Mary Jane sits in silence, turning Felicia’s question over in her head. Felicia gets up from the table and helps Mary Jane out of her seat. They stand together as the champagne colors their cheeks.

“Move in with you? You and me?” Mary Jane repeats. Her heart flutters. But she still has a few months on her lease in Queens. She was proud to get the apartment all on her own. What would she do if she did move in with Felicia? Would they split the rent? How much was the penthouse? Would she feel useless if she wasn’t contributing as much as her partner? All the logistics and what ifs spin around, increasing the whirlwind in her mind.

Felicia touches Mary Jane’s wrist, pulling her back into orbit. Without all the problems of Mary Jane’s social and family life, she starts to lean towards Felicia, drawn in by her alluring offer. If she is honest with herself, she would be so happy to be with her.

Felicia wraps her arms around Mary Jane and caresses her cheek. “You know I’ll always be here for you, right? We can take this at whatever pace you need. But I will be here. Okay?”

Mary Jane melts in her embrace. Felicia closes the gap and kisses Mary Jane deeply, savoring the sweet taste of her lips. Mary Jane moans, a soft purr building in her throat. She kisses Felicia back and clutches her with her hands. Suddenly, they stop, and Felicia’s eyes level with hers. A need and a want is made very clear.

Mary Jane and Felicia hurry back to Felicia’s apartment, attached at the hip. Felicia swoops Mary Jane up into her arms and princess carries her into the apartment where the soft vanilla scent of the spotless penthouse welcomes them home. Felicia drops Mary Jane, setting her back on the floor in the kitchen, her heels clattering as they hit the marble floor. [censored]

Moving in with Felicia would be a big deal. Mary Jane would have to end her apartment’s contract early, she would need to come out to everyone else in her life, and she would need to make a big—scary—leap into commitment. Her parents are the prime example of why she should never get married or spend her life with someone. Peter Parker only cemented that fear in the way he quickly swung in and out of her life, always putting his life of crime first. But Felicia? Every kiss [censored] pulls Mary Jane closer to an edge she has never felt. She drifts into an open sea of emotions with her guard down and her heart open. The possibility of their unknown future is a distant shore, and she only has one buoy in hand. Felicia floats on the ocean current, drawing her in with an honest siren’s song. Not one of trickery, but of lust, confidence, and trust.

Mary Jane twists her hands into Felicia’s hair and pushes her head back, sinking down to passionately kiss her neck, gently sucking and leaving little love bites. Felicia groans and sways gently, running her hands up and down Mary Jane’s legs, snagging her fingers on the lacey strings of her thong.

In a sudden rush, Felicia scoops Mary Jane up and off the counter. Mary Jane wraps her legs around Felicia’s waist, suddenly done with the kitchen and wanting more from her lover.

“Go, go, go!” Mary Jane urges. Felicia carries her to the bedroom, pushing open the door with her shoulder and unceremoniously dumps her onto the bed. Mary Jane lands with a thump and rolls over just as Felicia descends upon her, covering her with kisses and letting her hands explore…

[censored scene]

“So, does all this excitement mean you want to move in with me?” Felicia asks. She speaks barely above a whisper, nervous if Mary Jane has any other intentions. She wants her in her life, every day, night, and morning. If Mary Jane is not ready for that yet, that is alright, but she needs her in every way. She’ll wait, but she still hopes this dream can come true.

Mary Jane’s eyes search the room, tracing the ceiling to the open windows showing the downtown city lights. “Move in with you?” she repeats. “Of course. Of course, I want to move in with you.”

Felicia kisses her. She can’t believe it! Tonight is only the first of many to come for them. She can’t wait to carry Mary Jane over this threshold again and again. She will always treat her like a queen.

Mary Jane pulls away and fixes her with a semi-fake frown. “But do you promise to take responsibility and always love me? If I am here for you, I need to know you are here for me.” Felicia listens quietly as Mary Jane knits the words together, pausing and glancing at her as she speaks. Mary Jane bites her lip and waits for an answer.

Felicia hugs her tight, the sheets around them wrinkling and shuffling. “Of course, you won’t be able to get rid of me!”

“Really?”

“Really, I love you, Red.”

Mary Jane’s Aunt, Anna Watson, has a tidy little home on Forest Hills in Queens, New York. The blue siding and the tidy lawn just next to the Parker’s house is a reminder of being a teenager, and her life before now.

Mary Jane and Felicia are sitting on a sofa in Anna’s living room. Anna is poised in a blue armchair and wears a pink sweater and matching slippers. Her brown hair has faded into gray over the years, but her wise and aware demeanor is always the same.

When Mary Jane moved out of her apartment in Queens, ended the lease early, and moved in with Felicia, she had told Aunt Anna that Felicia was a friend. Over the next couple of months, she spent time transitioning into her new lifestyle and identifying as a lesbian. Her co-workers on the movie set had been thrilled and told her they knew she was perfect for her LGBTQ+ role. The directors had even asked if she could advise them on some details in the script but Mary Jane, still getting used to everything, told them she was only beginning to learn about her new identity and preferences.

The shoots were about to wrap up in a week or two and before the movie started marketing and planning for a premiere, she knew she had to do one last thing. That was to come out to Aunt Anna before she accidentally heard about her niece and girlfriend on TV, or somewhere else.

On top of this, it is concerning to have not told her right away. Aunt Anna has always been a part of her life—which made coming out scarier in case it went awry—so why didn’t she tell her right away? There is nothing to be ashamed of and there is a good possibility that Aunt Anna will accept Felicia into the family as well. Felicia is delighted to be meeting Aunt Anna. She loves every opportunity she gets to show off her lover whether that be meeting someone new or simply going out on many dates around town.

“I’m glad to hear your movie is going well. I can’t wait to be the first in line to buy some tickets,” Aunt Anna says. She smiles, her face outlining into wrinkles around her lips and eyes.

“Thank you!” Mary Jane exclaims. “It’s been a thrilling ride so far. I’m eager to see the finished results.”

“How has the new apartment been? I never thought you could make it all the way over to Manhattan so soon,” Aunt Anna asks. “I hope you two are getting along. It’s always hard to share a space with someone new.” Her mouth twists as if she just said a joke. Felicia laughs haltingly before clamming up into a smile. If only she knew.

“Really good,” Mary Jane says. “There is actually something I’ve been wanting to tell you about that.”

“Yes? What is it?”

Mary Jane takes a big breath and holds onto Felicia’s arm for support. A clock on the wall ticks. “Felicia and I are together. We’ve been partners for a few months now. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to tell you sooner, I was just worried.”

Aunt Anna pauses and her smile turns into a frown. “What?”

“She’s my girlfriend. I moved in with her after we started dating so we could be together.” Mary Jane’s fingers tremble a little. Felicia moves to wrap her hands in hers, holding her steady.

“Well, that’s a little unexpected,” Aunt Anna says. “I’m a little disappointed.” Dread fills Mary Jane’s stomach and bubbles up to her heart. This is what she feared. Aunt Anna taps the arms of her armchair in thought before looking back up into Mary Jane’s eyes. “I’m disappointed mostly that you couldn’t tell me sooner. There is no need for you to apologize, I should be apologizing for putting you into this position. I wish you didn’t feel like you had to make this an official announcement. I wish it could have just been as simple as telling me your favorite color.”

Aunt Anna shifts in her seat and looks out the window. Mary Jane clutches Felicia’s hands as both girls look at each other and over to the aunt. Is she actually okay with this?

“I did like Peter Parker. He is a nice boy, but he didn’t spoil you enough. He is hardly here and often leaves in such a rush; I wondered what his true focus was. Felicia, I’ve heard many good things about you and one thing that stands out to me is you are here. You are with Mary Jane, and you are often around too. I feel, with you, my girl won’t be so lonely anymore.”

“Absolutely,” Felicia says with a big grin. She pats Mary Jane. “I won’t be leaving this one alone anytime soon.”

Aunt Anna sighs. “I did want Mary Jane to have babies for me to play with one day but, oh well. While I don’t want to put any pressure on you girls—could you think about surrogates or adopting later down the road? What else is an old lady supposed to do in the twilight years of her life? I need grandkids to spoil!”

Mary Jane turns bright red and begins waving her hands. “Aunt Anna! You’ve only just met; you can’t say this yet!”

“Yeah, maybe we’ll get a cat or something you can babysit once in a while,” Felicia jokes.

“I would be happy with that. Just, keep being there for each other. That is your biggest strength.”

“I think learning how to trust someone is always the hardest part,” Felicia says. She and Mary Jane are cuddled up in bed, watching Friends on her television. Mary Jane is curled up with her head on Felicia’s chest as Felicia braids small pieces of her hair, twisting and untwisting the strands.

“I spent so much of my life angry and hurt for what had happened to me, I forgot to look for what I needed in the present.”

On the TV, the group of friends are stomping on the floor of their apartment, yelling at some annoying neighbors downstairs. Mary Jane chuckles and rolls back until she is nose to nose with Felicia.

“Until you met me?”

“Yes, until I met you. What comfort, peace, and happiness I have known ever since.” Felicia drops her hair and taps a custom-made red collar around Mary Jane’s neck. In cursive, the words “Property of F.H.” are inscribed across it. Mary Jane wears this collar around the house as her sub, much to Felicia’s enjoyment. “And just so much sexiness,” Felicia croons. She leans down to kiss Mary Jane.

“Face it Hardy, you’ve hit the jackpot!” Mary Jane says between kisses. Felicia giggles and pulls her close, covering her with love.

“I sure have, Red. I’ve won big for sure!”

“I’ll be by your side,” Mary Jane says.

Felicia rolls over on top of Mary Jane and whispers against her neck, “For now and forever.”

They fall into a passionate kiss as the television murmurs in the background and sunlight trickles into the windows. Mary Jane clutches Felicia to her, diving deeper into her new and treasured life.
